What is the vulva?

What is the vulva?

Great question! The vulva is all the bits on the outside: the lips (or labia), the clitoris, the opening to the vagina and the urethra (pee hole). Often, people say “vagina” when they really mean the vulva.

Vulvas can be very different from each other, but they're all unique—and that's what makes each one special and important. All vulvas are interesting and beautiful!

Your body is unique and nothing to be embarrassed about. Understanding your body (including your genitals) is an important part of taking care of it.

vulva care tips
Here's some feminine care for your vulva:

  • Gently wash the vulva with warm water and a mild, all-organic feminine wash. Avoid using harsh soaps or scrubs.
  • Choose underwear made of cotton or other breathable materials to keep the vulva dry and healthy.
  • Avoid douching. It is not necessary to douche, and it can disrupt the natural balance of bacteria in the vagina and increase the risk of infections.
  • Avoid scented tampons, pads, and liners and soap.
  • Use lubricant during sexual activity. Using a lubricant can help reduce irritation and make the experience more comfortable.
  • Wipe from front to back after using the toilet to prevent the spread of bacteria from the anus to the vulva.
  • If you experience any unusual symptoms, such as itching, burning, or discharge, it's important to see a healthcare provider for proper evaluation and treatment.
